A Confessing Church
Grace Presbyterian Church is a member of the Confessing Church Movement in the Presbyterian Church (USA). This movement began in March 2001 when a church in Pennsylvania decided that the Presbyterian Church was not affirming certain core beliefs of our faith strongly enough. In fact some of these were being questioned by leaders in our denomination. Therefore this church affirmed three central tenets, all of which are clearly stated in our Book of Order:
- Jesus Christ alone is Lord and Savior and he is the only way to salvation.
- The Bible is the Word of God written, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
- All Christians are called to a life of holiness. This includes maintaining marriage as God’s sole standard for sexual activity.
Other churches were invited to sign on with comparable, if not identical, statements. In the spring of 2001 the Session of Grace Church voted a modified statement affirming these basic affirmations of faith. The Confessing Church is not a formal movement. It is simply a forum to lift up certain basic statements of faith in a time of doubt and confusion. Well over a thousand Presbyterian congregations have joined in this movement and more join every week.
