New Opportunities in the New Year
January 2008
“and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” – Ephesians 4:24
As we begin a new year we are looking at some changes and challenges in our church program. Fewer and fewer people have a fixed, standard schedule in their lives. Participation in family, work, school and social life has changed for many in our congregation. There is no reason to think that participation in church will be an exception to this. We are not prepared to change basic worship and Sunday School structures (at least at this time). However we will be exploring ways to involve more people in other church activities, particularly Bible studies.
We will have a six week 5 pm Bible study in I Peter beginning on Sunday, January 13. Starting also that week on Wednesday, Jan. 16, we will offer two sections of a new Bible study in the Gospel of Mark. The first will be 7 – 8 a.m. for people who have to get to school or work and the other will be the regular 9:45 a.m. class. In addition we plan to put the Bible study on the church web site as a blog so that others can be part of the study whenever their schedule permits. We will be working on the details of this as we go forward.
We also have the special opportunity to join together with the congregation of Temple Ner Tamid, 936 Broad Street in Bloomfield, to view and discuss two films with strong religious and moral implications. This promises to be a unique and exciting event and we invite everyone to participate.
There will be many ways to live out our shared mission in proclaiming the Lord Jesus Christ in 2008. We look forward to your being with us.
