The Doubter
April 2009
I can’t remember why.
I only know I wasn’t there.
The others had gathered.
And He came.
At least that’s what they said.
I had seen grief
and hysteria
tears, anger, frustration
and then denial.
I knew sorrow,
hurt,
loss.
Through them
I had grown stronger
I thought.
I knew dead was dead.
But I know people can believe
anything
If they want to
badly enough.
So I told them
I’m a realist
no fantasies
for me.
That’s what I told them.
I could understand
Him living in their hearts
their minds
their dreams
But
That’s all.
I’d have to see him
myself
touch him
myself.
But
I knew
that’s impossible.
Then He was there.
“Touch me and see,” He said.
It was Him.
And the world exploded.
