The Earthquake
April 2010
“And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.” – Matthew 28:2
There had been earthquakes before
and there would be more
later
but nothing like this.
Others would shake the ground more,
collapsing buildings, ripping roads and streets.
This earthquake was more than physical.
It broke open the gates
of death and hell,
ended the law’s condemnation,
crushed human pride
and shattered the darkness
with blazing light.
This was life erupting
in death’s silent tomb,
grace triumphing over guilt
and love conquering
hate, despair and
cold apathy.
Everything divides
because He,
He is risen.
